2016 was a great year for the Sheriff’s House Foundation! Many anticipated projects were completed by the end of the year. With contributions, grants and help from volunteers, the Foundation has met several goals. 2017 promises more projects will be done continuing restoration of the Old Sheriff’s House and Jail.
Included are updates of the activity in the past year:
An existing grant from the Crown Point Community Foundation has supported the repair and pointing of the brick masonry north wall of the east jail addition, reinforcing the structure and sealing it against the elements.
The window renovation project in the 1909 first floor south section has proceeded toward accomplishment. All windows have been glazed and begun to be installed. This aids the weather proofing and insulation of a critical area of the building.
John W. Anderson Foundation grants from current years have completed the repair of plaster ceilings and finish specifications on the second floor of the residence. This enables these rooms to proceed toward complete restoration in preparation for use for prospective tenant, research and archive occupancy.
A Legacy Foundation educational grant provided new portable seating for general use within the building offering flexible
accommodations for public tours, lectures and events.
We invite your participation in the project’s work and restoration, and renewal of membership in the Foundation in the years ahead.
Membership helps provide the funds needed to keep these projects going and can take various forms:
